Twelve years ago, we moved to Germany, into a semi-detached house. Our neighbours had a cat, Kyla, who was very suspicious and always ran away when she saw us. One rainy day, as I was walking home, she managed to get my attention and let me know that she wanted me to open the door for her, which I did. From then on she became more friendly. About two years later, sadly, I lost my mum, and so I often felt very down. One day, when I was feeling more down than usual, as I was leaving the house, I saw Kyla walking on the opposite pavement; suddenly she ran across the road, heading towards me: she looked at me and started rubbing herself against my legs (something she had never done before) purring. She continued for several minutes, while I stroked her and then she jumped up on the wall, rubbing her little face against my cheek for a moment, before running away. I always thought that somehow she felt my sadness and wanted to comfort me.

As a child, my mother managed to make me eat spinach by preparing it like this:melt a little butter in a pan, add the boiled spinach and cook for a few minutes (add a little milk if necessar,), add grated Parmesan and mix well to melt; serve hot, with a sprinkling of grated Parmesan.
