I love metric, powers of 10 for everything… oh wait, what about seconds, minutes, and degrees? Hmmm. ;-) Perhaps metrification only went half way. Another thing, all that 1/2 " pipe we have now becomes 12.7mm, lovely! When I was in grad school (electrical engineering) I was teaching assistant in electronics lab, I found the most common error was misplaced decimal points. So much for powers of 10 being the best.

Yes, lodestone, but even worse is this idea won’t even begin to work. Magnetic attraction is inversely proportional to the distance squared, so it would never even get started.

“fewer” is used for things that are counted, “less” is for things that are measured, but this has largely been forgotten.

Fewer teeth. Less for measures, fewer for counts. Nobody seems to know this anymore.

As a mathematician, may I point out that there is such a thing as 110%, and 200%, and 300% etc. It is just a mathematical convention of expressing 1/100th parts. I.E. 110% = 1.1.

My dad always said it was caused by PTSD from serving in the military. But I don’t recall ever seeing him talk about anything like that, but then my dad didn’t like talking about any war either.
