The ‘rhymning’ is Cockney. It used to be identifyed by the dropped ‘h’. Nobody understand the Cockney anymore, but then I am from the US. We don’t understand anybody.
One year (several decades ago) my mother made 7 fruitcakes, lovingly poured rum over all 7 and placed them in the freezer, all except for one which she kept out for Christmas day. What was left was placed in the freezer. The following year 6 cakes plus the remainder of the previous year’s cake was removed and she lovingly poured rum over all cakes. This continued until all 7 cakes had been eaten over the years. Except for the last little sliver of cake. No one dared to finish it off.
Another little Christmas cake story. Since fruitcake was a no-no word, my daughter did some research and found the “Jamaican Christmas Cake”. Now that is a fruitcake I look forward to every year. Takes anywhere from 6 months to a couple of weeks to fix. The earlier before Christmas to start on the cake the better the cake is.
It is good for, well, maybe not for the person drinking it but it is for the people around said person.
