If they knew the hot wheels were worth something, I’m sure the comic books would not have escaped their attention either.

Sometimes no matter how much you plan, it still isn’t enough. Many years ago, I sent my then-husband, son (14) and son’s friend (14) to camp with enough food for 5 days plus a list of what I planned for what meals. We were only going to be there for 3 days, so there should have been more than enough. I went out a day later. When I got there, the two boys had already eaten 5 days worth of food. My husband said that as soon as camp was set up, the boys started on the food, each eating entire packages. My son could cook so nothing was safe. I had to go back into town and go grocery shopping AGAIN! We never went camping again after that.

Yeah, I found out the hard way that small towns aren’t on their radar. Not only do I now live on the outskirts of the outskirts of a small town, but 7 twisty miles of backroads just to get to a main road. AAA would be lost out here, if they could even find it! Between my insurance’s roadside assistance and my favorite local garage/tow company, I really don’t need AAA now. Just wish I’d had those two back on that cold night instead of AAA.

It was in the late 90’s when they left me stranded and I ended my membership. Over the years since, I’ve gotten better and faster service by going through my insurance company for roadside help than I ever got from AAA.

AAA is a joke. They left me stranded in a dark parking lot on a bitterly cold and windy Christmas Eve night by refusing to call out a locksmith to open my car. They also refused to give me a locksmith’s number so I could make the call. I couldn’t walk home since it was almost 30 miles away and the little town had no taxi service or other public transportation. It took nearly 7 hours to get in touch with someone who could help me. On Dec 26 of that year, I cancelled my AAA membership that I’d had for over 25 years.

I used to have a dog that loved Deep Space Nine. Whenever she would hear the opening music, she would jump on the sofa and lay there watching the TV until the show went off. If her poor sister was in the way, she would push her off so she could have her special spot for that hour.

My dog is like that all the time.

I’ll be happy when I can get another car since my ‘05 is really starting to show and act its age. We don’t drive very often any more, about 4 or 5 times a month or so. The only places we’ve gone to lately are the grocery stores and taking my brother to see his doctors. Living in the country – and in the mountains – requires a trip of 15 to 20 miles or more one way (it’s 7 miles just to the main road!) just to go to the grocery store, the doctor’s office or just about any place else.

The only problem is if anything happens to that one car, there is no back-up other than a rental which is quite expensive. We’ve been a single car household for a while now. While it hasn’t been difficult, I just afraid that something is going to happen to the car before I’m in the position to get another one.
