Snow is crystalline. Meaning that it has space between the crystals when you make it into, say, a fort. If it was an ICE fort, then yes, that would be unrealistic, but snow does melt that fast if you pour hot water onto it.
“Possession is 9/10ths of the law” is not actually a legal concept. Legally, in fact, it is completely false. It may be a factual issue where proof of ownership cannot be otherwise ascertained. As for the carrot, it can be argued that by affixing it to the snowman, the carrot was abandoned by the maker of the snowman, and thereby no longer the property of that person (or, in this case, anthropomorphic animal).
