I entered the Army when they still starched their fatigues. Every day you “broke starch” at least once (more often if you sweat a lot). Then, in the mid-1970’s they began to issue permapress fatigues (a.k.a. “pickle suits”), which weren’t as sturdy but were easier to maintain.
There’s actually an all-terrrain scooter on the market now. Bill O’Reilly used to talk on his show sometimes about a veterans’ group that provided them to non-ambulatory vets.
My dad grew up on a farm before the Army Air Force got him in WW2. So, we always called the evening meal “supper”; but for some reason the midday meal was always “lunch”.
