   Actually, the Constitution calls for the creation of “a” federal district, but it was an act of Congress that defined the District as we know it.It would only take an act of Congress to redefine the federal district as exclusively the area encompassing the Capital, White House, Supreme Court and connecting open space on The Mall. The remaining remnants of the district could then be considered for statehood or other reorganization.

   I am not completely opposed to the idea of English as the official language, but any movement to make it so must include all the resources and opportunities necessary to afford every person living here to learn conversational and written English.Otherwise, it’s just another conservative tool to create a permanent underclass.
