The early VW Beetles did not have a gas gauge. They had a foot-operated lever near the clutch peddle that gave you access to a few more gallons of gas to find a gas station. On the heavily-used one I bought as my first car, that reserve switch did not work. I ended up carrying a one-gallon can of gas to deal with miscalculations and had a gadget that showed me the odometer reading at the last fill-up to remind me when to look for a gas station.

Once in a while a place with a more cultured atmosphere pops up in Treetops. That never seems to last long.

I just saw lawn treatments that claim to eliminate tics and other unwanted bugs. It sounds like Silent Spring all over again. I am enjoying seeing fireflies at night and hope that other people are not indiscriminately destroying the local ecosystem.

This is not the first time an M. C. Escher motif has popped up in Id.

The northeast already has its share of venomous snakes, copperheads and timber rattlesnakes. Conservationists were going to help restore a wild population of a rare variety of rattlesnake on an isolated island connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. Public panic ensued and killed the project. The snakes will have to stay in the zoo exhibit for now.

That definitely is a free-range range. It has no visible connection to any energy supply. It is right at home in this strip, where any connection to reality is usually accidental.

Might have been more of a warning not to mess with Poseidon/Neptune or his domain.
