shadow: To start the engine it first had to be cleared. The propeller was turned by hand to both clear and start the engine. To clear the engine the pilot would first make sure the ignition switch was off and the engine would not fire. After the clearing he would announce either ‘contact’ or ‘switch on’ so the person turning the prop would know the engine would now fire.
Also GWB’s fault that the buses never left the area where they were parked. No fault whatsoever of city and/or state officials who were busy counting their graft $$$. LOL
