   I was in the USCG stationed at the electronics repair station located on Yerba Buena island in the middle of the bay bridges. 3 of us had to go to Pidgeon Point to make a repair on the coast about 40 miles south of SF. We are tooling along in the suburban and we start looking at each other and saying Who farted? We rolled the windows down and the stink got worse. We were passing by a Brussel Sprouts field near Half Moon Bay.

   Right out of high school I got a job at IBM’s San Jose Plant site in subassembly. I made $320 a month. Gas was 19 cents and you got either glasses or dishes or stamps from the gas stations. I could fill up my ‘58 chevy belair 348 ci and cruise the main on Friday nights on 1st and 2nd street most of the night. Of course a trip to Mel’s drive in too. Yes, back then life was really like American Graffiti.
