Mom redeemed her stamps for a full set of fine china for 12 with serving dishes. We still have most of the set and have passed it down to my niece and her family of 10.
My daughter makes it easy. She buys what she wants and asks me to wrap it for her. Even buys the paper she likes. She is on the autism spectrum and does NOT like surprises, so this makes for a happy Christmas for both of us. We do the same for her birthday. Since she is 41, and mostly independent, we have discussed in detail why this works best.
I worked in a city Federal bldg (just outside Wash, DC) that had a cafeteria. I hate to think about how much money I spent on food there because I was too lazy to pack a lunch. But the food was really good and quite varied.
You can’t run a tight shoe if the laces are untied!!
