When l was very young (21) l mortgage a house for 28k with my first job. It was a duplex unit two bedrooms in a nice neighborhood. The year was 1976. It was a gift for my parents which were too poor to have anything except my gradmother’s place to live. We move there and then l get married. l bought another house for my wife and me and the two little girls that came after. After my parents passed l built a second unit in top of the duplex. The intention was to provide a roof for our daughters in the not so far future. That was in the 90’s. I knew homes would be expensive by the time they reach adulthood. Today only one of my daughters live her intended apartment. The other one move overseas and is renting a house with her husband. She knows she have a roof paid off when she retires and comes back. Maybe for my grandkids, who knows..
