I did that one year. Maureen was baby-sitting at some rich guys house on Warwick Neck. At midnight we all tried to go in the water…we got about as far as Wallace did. It was so foggy that night we had to put Kenny on the hood to try to keep the car in the lane.
Go to the shelter and adopt an older cat that reaches out of his cage for you. I’m 87 and on my last animals, 2 dogs 3 cats. It was 2 and 2 until the cat distribution network left a young boy at our back door. He is one of the sweetest cats ever. Never puts out a claw with anyone. He likes to play with the dogs, but the 2 girl cats are not totally happy with him.
In the 50’s Georgy would call out under my bedroom window, “Billy, come out and play.” We would be gone till dinner time or when the street lights came on. Eat lunch at somebody’s house, No one worried.
Glad you posted that. I remembered that they were from that book, but only that. It’s been 70 years since I read it so anything but the broadest outlines and common knowledge is all that’s left.
