And if a person can’t afford to pay for that medicine or procedure, that’s just tough cookies? And to not give a needed care because they don’t have the money is to deny that care, plain and simple. That is not a lie. As for paying for other people’s needs, what do you think private insurance does? It’s based on the idea of pooling risks. One could say of pooling needs. Sure, what you said about diet and exercise are good things, but people still get sick or injured regardless of them. What’s important is that we have a society where people’s needs are not neglected, especially in a society as rich (supposedly) as ours.
People can go to the gym, watch what they eat, see this and that health specialist, and still get sick or hurt. Medical care should not be denied a patient because they didn’t enroll at a gym, or something else. Medical care must be given based upon need because that is what’s right, and what it is for.
