Back in 1941 after Pearl Harbor, there were some in the Japanese High Command who thought about invading the West Coast of the United States. Japanese who had lived on the West Coast dismissed that idea right away telling the High Command that everybody in America has a gun. End of invasion. But even that’s true today. The shooters look for soft targets, certainly not a place where they themselves might be shot. What happened when the plumber started shooting at Kelley? It was over. If I could carry a gun, I would, but for no other reason than to prevent mass shootings.
My police friends are not big believers in an armed citizenry. That being said, they’ve also told me that when it comes to shootings like this, the function of the police is to draw the chalklines around the bodies. When it hits the fan, you’re on your own. If you’re not armed, you’re probably dead.
You just know she’ll be back. Hopefully not any time soon.
