@ingelil Still obstructions, runway length, noise abatement, other traffic, all these things and more go into runway selection. As a pilot I would always try to choose the prevailing runway but if the situation prevents that I land on the safest runway available.
This is not always true. You generally want to land against the wind but at some airports this is not always possible. Especially if they have a single runway and mountains at one end. There may other restriction that require landing or take off with the wind.
