At this point I think the GOP is probably beyond repair and needs to go the way of the Whigs. I’d be a lot happier if I had any idea what would replace them, though.

Exorbitant spending, like Donnie doubling the deficit even before the pandemic, and adding nearly as much debt in four years as Obama did in eight? No one in the GOP has been the least bit serious about fiscal responsibility since Bill Clinton left office. As for corruption, his proposed solution is to legalize it.There’s nothing remotely conservative about the False Prophet or his cultists.

No troops would have been needed if Trump hadn’t spent months riling up his followers with lies. Responsible leaders accept reality instead of denying it to protect their ego.

I’d rather hear silence than lies. Trump regularly evades questions, providing rambling, incoherent responses. Even when he makes clear statements there’s no guarantee he won’t say something completely different tomorrow.

You can thank the toxic legacy of FDR and his Raw Deal for that. WW II era wage and price controls led to employer-provided health insurance, and tax policy enshrined it as the norm. The obvious solution is to separate employment and insurance. Let individuals choose their own insurance, and not worry about losing coverage if they move to a new job.

The so-called “Fairness Doctrine” was unconstitutional trash. It was supposed to promote “balanced” news coverage, but the actual effect was to discourage any coverage of controversial topics that might force broadcasters to provide free air time to opposing views. What other businesses are expected to give away their product?

Not true. The Wiemar government actively tried to silence the Nazis. Once the Nazis seized power, they just turned the already existing systems of suppression against their enemies. Hitler was appointed chancellor by President Hindenburg, and expanded his power through threats and violence. He was never elected to any office, and the Nazi party never held a majority in the Reichstag until after all other parties were outlawed.

Whatever factors enabled Hitler and the Nazis to seize power, an excess of free speech wasn’t one of them.

You can be a conservative, or you can support Trump, but not both. And he’s been all too willing to pander to Nazis, or at least people who are uncomfortably Nazi-adjacent.

    I wouldn’t rule it out.
