From a review of Skiing For Beginners (1951) by Conrad Brown: “Brown’s acknowledgements give thanks not only to Spike Mignault, the lad who posed for all the action shots, but also to Spike’s truant officer for permitting him to skip school.” (Chicago Sunday Tribune, Feb. 11 1951, Part 4 Page 5)
I think it was a still from an Electric Company bit on the impact of punctuation I saw in Weekly Reader ca 1972 that showed a girl with fishing gear and a paintbrush next to a sign saying “Keep Out? No, Fishing Allowed.”
I’ve been reading clippings (mostly from the 1940s and 1950s about Abraham Lincoln) that came down to me from my great aunt Amy, including the backs, some with social notices like that – a fascinating look at another world.
The one single-purpose tool in Alton Brown’s kitchen (per a comment on his Good Eats show).
