Yes, it can be very sad. Agnes is very in-your-face about poverty. But it also invites you to share Agnes’s and Trout’s little victories. There’s a little of the “We never knew we were poor during the depression” thing going on, too. There’s a great and marvelous dignity in children’s naïveté. Don’t worry, be happy. It just never pays to be too sad too long.
I use rabbit ears today. There’s still free tv out there. Yep, it’s garbage but the rest is just expensive garbage. Oh, and yeah, I still gotta do the occasional rabbit dance to find the best reception. Ahh, livin’ the simpler life of the 50s.
