The northbound buses to Alice and southbound buses to Clara run on schedules offset by 5 minutes (e.g., northbound at 6:00, 6:30, etc., and southbound at 6:05, 6:35, etc.). Since Bob arrives at the stop at a random time and takes the first bus, the 5-minute gap means he catches the northbound bus to Alice five times more often than the southbound bus to Clara, as the window of time leading to Alice’s bus is five times larger than the window for Clara’s.
