    The Greek does translate as “love.” The KJV translators had manuscripts that were only dated from about the 8th to 11th centuries. Since then older manuscripts have been discovered (the most famous being the Dead Sea Scrolls). Either an ancient copyist made a mistake or the KJV translators did. (It’s also possible that the original word was a double entendre and meant both.)
