   I have always felt that there is a good way in which you Americans could have truly free healthcare, without paying [greedy] insurance companies: the Federal Government could impose a 10% tax on all the fireworks sold in the US. Do you have any idea how much you guys spend on those things each year??! I’ll bet it would more than pay for your health system.

   In the space of less than a week, I had an EKG, two CT scans, a spinal tap and an MRI. And they didn’t find a cause for the syndrome.

   Then, on another occasion, within a month or so I got scheduled for an echocardiogram, an angiogram and a slate of appointments with the heart clinic.

   Granted, if I had needed surgery for something that might be considered non-life threatening, yes, there would be a wait. But no wait if I had needed stents. Same when my Mother went in for heart attack. For a broken hip, they have to operate within 48 hours. (Or 72, I forget.)

   I am immensely thankful for the good service I have received in these later years of life, when I’ve had some extremely rare, expensive conditions to deal with. If not for that, I might have had to declare bankruptcy.
