They were assigned to work together as a group whether the two of them wanted it or not. The teacher was running a classroom, not Love Connection.

Did not seem to be a deep friendship between Arnie and Michael. Same goes for Dallas, Lorne, and Wesley D. Bates.

“Elly vs. Belly” has been a recurring theme for this comic strip.

Dogs will also fight. They fight over territory and over females. Some of these fights will be to death.

Animals have no concept of charity. Humans do. A lion does not care that if a zebra is unable to provide for its offspring. To make matters worse, the lion may try to make the baby zebra its next meal. Human beings have tried to help a hungry child greatly more than instances of ignoring it.

Respect animals, yes. Worship animals, absolutely not.

There was a strip which suggested friction between Elly and Rhetta. It was when Elly went shopping and Rhetta rang up her purchases. Elly thinks to herself how she never heard from Michael since he left for college, then Rhetta says she just got an eight page letter from him. Elly then thinks to herself “WAAAH!”

There was this strip from the B.A. era (Before April):

    Pattersons go to Easter service

Pastor: For God so loved the world, that he sent His only Son to die on the Cross for our sins. Today we celebrate the day when three days after the Crucifixion, He is risen. Hallejulah, Praise the Lord!

Michael seems reflective on this glorious mystery

Pastor: The service has ended. Let us go in peace to serve the Lord.

    Churchgoers exit

Michael: Is church open every Sunday?

    Elly: Yes, Michael.

Michael: Then how come we only come twice a year?

John and Elly have shocked expressions on their faces

True. Elly is not asking herself “why does my baby boy have to suffer?” Rhetta was the unfaithful one and Michael told her to hit the highway. As for the tooth, John and Elly did offer to help out with that. The infection was nobody’s fault, it just happened.
