Veteran, Engineer, lover of great storytelling and craft brews. I'm 72 and on my second marriage and have been retired for just over four years. Sherman's my middle name. It was my Grandfather's first name. That's where I got it from, not the tank. My new avatar is from a recent comic that reminded me of Wally from the Western Airlines commercials.

JD Vance IS one of tiny’s worst impulses. What is he going to rein in?

  4. 10 days ago on Prickly City

You mean he isn’t doing it already? I’m not watching the news and keeping my thumb on the mute button for what little television I watch for the next few days.

An ugly demeanor still shows through, no matter how good one looks.

Even if the decide not to bring back comments, I think a thumbs up and a thumbs down would be a decent representation of the comic without the potential for creating a harmful situation.

Oregon has one week for ballots postmarked no later than 8PM tomorrow to arrive. However, all it takes is one vote more than 50% of mailed out ballots for or against a candidate or issue to decide the outcome. For example, 10,000 ballots were sent 8PM on election day, 8,000 ballots have been counted, an issue received 5,001 votes against it. the issue failed in that district even if all other ballots come in the next day with the proper postmark and all the votes are for the issue. It still fails because the count would be 4999 for and 5001 against.

I’m in a similar situation as I lock up one of the ballot collection boxes at 8PM tomorrow, and there have been on-line threats even in our semi-rural county.

At the time of its inception, the Electoral College was a good idea. However, at the time, the eligibility to vote required that you were free, white, 21 and in most states, if not all, a property owner. It was also set at one electoral vote for every 10,000 people. When in the early 20th century, the amendment that limited the number of Representatives to 425 was enacted, it also limited the number of electoral votes.

To diverge from statement to opinion, I don’t think it had to. Since the Electoral College is a separate entity, there was no reason to change equal representation for voters (10,000 votes in California has the same value as 10,000 votes in Alaska). Likewise, I think the states (48 or 49 of them out of 50) that have winner take all are cheating their constituents and should be abolished. There can still be the 525 members of Congress and the Senate validate that their Electoral votes for each state are true like done at present.

Yes. We do have one of the best constitutions and forms of government. However, it doesn’t work if those who are obligated to follow it, decide not to.
