The more I think about it, the more sure that being unconscious isn’t in itself what helps you mutate into an animal form, but the fact that you’re relaxed. What if people who mutate while conscious only turn into those monsters because that’s what they’re anticipating will happen and they are panicking. What if the mutations draw their influences on the thoughts and feelings of the individual, and how they see themselves rather than it being random.
