Not trying to make it your fault. But the system must read something to identify the borrower. What I said was, it must have misread that thing. Maybe it wasn’t a card in this case, but somehow the system misidentified someone else as you. How could it be your fault? You had nothing to do with it, and it was probably nobody’s fault, just a machine error. Now the librarian’s attitude dealing with her problem seems pigheaded, I agree. But I wasn’t talking about that, only about how the erroneous record that showed the book checked out to you came to be. And you couldn’t possibly be involved. I can’t put it any more clearly than that. It’s like a Hitchcock movie where the innocent person is pursued by the police and has to prove innocence, say “North by Northwest” as an example.
