The place where I retired from was always doing this sort of stuff with management. One female manager had to come onto my shop floor and say something nice about me and each of my guys. I looked at her and said, “This is killing you, isn’t it?”
I worry about a couple of my Latin friends. One’s a naturalized citizen. One was born and raised in Puerto Rico, so a born US citizen. Both speak with a Spanish accent. I feel the nut jobs will target those two.
In the first 23 years of my working life, the engineers at that company were great people. If there was an issue with a product or process, they’d come out to see if it was a tooling or design issue and we worked together to make things right. I spent the next 27 years with a different outfit with the engineering staff in Europe. Again, a helpful group of people. The last 7 years, though, we hired a US staff. They never saw a railroad track before but claimed to know more about it than people with 20 to 30 years experience. Anything they designed was fraught with problems and when pointed out we were told we weren’t smart enough to use it. So yeah, I have somewhat of a jaundiced view.
