Baloney. At some point you send it to the publisher, submit it to the producer or take it in front of an audience. You only pull it back when someone who you don’t want to see it stands a chance of seeing it.

I would never say you’re old! My point is that the positive male figures you mentioned were all introduced prior to 1950. They had positive male virtues of being brave, strong, resolute, self-controled, and possesing a positive out look. Male characters, starting in the 70’s have been increasingly, well, as Calvin put it, “befuddled morons, heavy drinkers, gluttons, and lazy goof-offs.” Men on TV have been worse. The trend may be that, as Dad implies because good role models just aren’t funny, but it could be that the entertainment industry seeks to re-order society by placing all men in a negative light.

Has Stef ever done either of those things? Hitchcock said, “Drama is life with the dull bits cut out”. Somebody else said “A literalist is someone who misses tongue-in-check commentary or exaggeration for emphasis”.

I think she wrote it after she started having some feelings for Mr. glove-wearing Phil.

I agree. What’s a little disheartening is that by having it with her, and showing to Phil, Mrs. Horner is presented as either oblivious or presumptuous, by bringing something to Phil’s attention that Luann wasn’t ready to do herself.

Reminds me of what a sportswriter had to say about a notoriously bad fielding shortstop, “What do Earl Errorprone and Michael Jackson have in common? They both wear a glove on one hand for no apparent reason.”
