I read a book once called “Am Exaltation of Larks”. It gave the name and history of the collective pronouns for many animals. Today all or most of them are probably online. Some are funny, some are odd. For example, there is a different word for whether geese are in the air or on the ground.
When I was growing up, all we had was a wringer washer and a kitchen sink to rinse the wash. No dryer of course, and five people to wash for. With a washer and dryer, what is Opal’s problem?
I absolutely HATED fountain pens. If you put a little too much in you would make a big blotch on your paper and have to start over. And you were not permitted to use ball point pens. I never understood why. And my mother told me that when she went to school, there was a little gizmo on their desks to hold the ink and some boys delighted in dipping the braids of the girls in front of them in those ink wells.
Her outfit looks like the one Maureen O’Sullivan wore in her Tarzan films before the Code began. I believe that was in the first two. After that she wore what was described as a “mid thigh length tunic”.
