I wonder about Opal wearing those house dresses. I live in a retirement village and I know of only one resident who wears dresses on a daily basis and that is for religious reasons. All the other women residents wear pants and a top, just like the majority younger women do. I know that my mother, like most women of her generation living in our blue collar neighborhood, wore them. I don’t know anywhere they can even be purchased anymore. When I looked it up on Amazon, the only thing that came up were housecoats.

I don’t believe they were his real uncles. Just friends that he made. They were long distance truck drivers and were on the road a lot. When Phil came back into the story, he asked Fritzi why Sluggo was living by himself and she said that he kept running away when he was placed in homes , so she got Nancy’s rich friend’s father to hire security to keep an eye on him and different good people helped him(inc. Fritzi of course), Then Phil won his confidence and became a mentor to him.

I went to Catholic schools in the 50’s. HATED fountain pens. Always had a mess. Once ball points were invented I could never understand why fountain pens were still required. Was it the same in public schools?
