Now comes the physical terrorists and the hard work. After the required healing of course. Good luck. Husband has had both knees replaced and you’d never know watching him walk though he has a permanent disability placard for bad weather or not good conditions. Don’t want him to fall and need another knee. He rarely uses it though. But when he was doing his therapy, he pushed through it even on the days he didn’t want to because it hurt and was done in about five weeks. There were people there who’d had knee surgery who were on their sixth month after surgery, limping along, who were still whining about why did they have to do the therapy…Same with the shoulder surgery people. So! You got this!!

Praying for guidance for the doctor’s hands and wisdom to correct the problem. Also for a great outcome for you. Shoulder surgery is always hard and so is the therapy after, but you got this! Let us know how it goes.

YAY that everything went well. Hope you had a good day at work since you won’t see this until after. Now comes the patience part because husband is going to get crabby when he can’t do things without opposable thumbs for awhile. But we’re all here and continuing to pray/petition/whatever we do so keep that in mind.

I still tie quilts, but I miss the intricate, hand designs I used to do. I loved Crazy Quilting but can’t do it anymore. Every once in awhile, I pick up a square when I’m having a good day, but it’s slow and frustrating and not like I used to do. I’d turn out a square a day, but that doesn’t happen anymore. Tell your mom I can certainly commiserate with her. It’s a hard skill to have to set aside through no fault of your own.

Praying for wisdom for the surgeons that they’ll be able to fix the problems, confidence in their skills that their hands will be guided correctly and strength for your husband to come through the surgery and heal properly after. Also for you for peace that things will be okay and everything will be back to normal before you know it.

I think that’ awesome! I have trouble holding onto the needle. I keep dropping it and can’t manipulate it like I used to. It makes me angry. And it makes me feel useless. My fine motor skills are fading fast. I can still crochet, but all the other hand skills are so hard for me now.

I never did a wedding dress. I did just about everything else though, but my mother scrimped to buy me the wedding dress that Mattel made for Christmas one year. It was pretty, but I was disappointed when it started to fall apart after a month or so and I couldn’t fix it because the material frayed almost the minute I tried.

OMG! I’m with you there!! I had a teacher just like that. We had to make an apron. Just a plain half apron. It was so frigging boring and I was so far past that because I was wearing skirts and shirts to school I’d made myself, on a treadle machine my mother learned to sew on of all things. I still have that machine. So I made a full apron with D rings to adjust the neck and pockets…she told me the sewing was perfect but failed me because I didn’t follow instructions. Only time my mother ever went to the principal.

We have a couple of really good resale shops by me, but people’s tastes are terrible anymore. And you know, old habits and all…I am fortunate enough to be able to afford nicer things now, (nicer is Macy’s instead of K-Mart) but I don’t buy much. I no longer work and even when I did, I had a minimal wardrobe. Why bother? I had a few good pieces and that was it. And it was hard to part with that money to buy them, but I made them last. When I was ready to replace them, I passed them on to someone else who might need them. I still made a lot of things until fabric got so darned expensive. Until the arthritis got bad in my hands, I was thrifting my quilting fabrics too because that had gotten ridiculous.

Growing up, I made my own clothes because material was so much cheaper than actual clothing and we didn’t have much in the way of anything for a long time. I also made my Barbie clothes and clothes for my Thumbelina doll. Those were challenging. I don’t have the Barbies anymore, but I still have my Thumbelina including the wooden key and she still works. Thing 1 still has her AG doll including the horse, the barn, everything.
