My father passed away in the wee hours of Christmas Eve of ‘97. The only recording of his voice I have is from their answering machine, and it’s his voice giving a rather stilted greeting. The worst problem is that it’s on a micro-cassette, and I think we dumped the answering machine after my mother passed. I may never be able to transfer that snippet and hear his voice again.
No; it’s not plugged in. I’m hoping the lack of usage will keep the electronics from degrading until I’m ready to digitize the tapes, using the method “Mopman” described.
I still have a VCR, but have no idea if it still works. We’ve got some VHS tapes that were converted from our Super 8mm home movies. I didn’t move fast enough, so I converted from one obsolete format to a different obsolete one. I was planning to convert the VHS to DVD, but that might be too late already.
Why did I hear the word “impressive” in Darth Vader’s voice? “Impressive; most impressive.”
