Totally unfair…Talented women need more opportunities to break through with their comics—the ‘old guard’ is just that…old and stale. Let the new comics help stem the tide of dead and dying newspapers nationwide!

Our Jasper played “Leapin’ Lupin” for us tonight—he managed to tip over a water bowl, food bowl and the table it was on—all in the haste to be first at the food! Cat Chow, water and other stuff everywhere, with Lup—er, uh, Jasper calmly in the middle of it all snacking on the kibble.

Sioux City Journal and other same owner newspapers are changing—dropping some comics again from print, but making most of Go Comics and others available with their online version. Haven’t looked for BCN on their site as I prefer my selection of Go Comics instead. I will check on it, though…

It won’t matter—they can’t hit anything they shoot, anyway!

There’s a hole in both our hearts today…our almost 17 year old kitty, Clarice, left us to cross the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. She had cancer that apparently spread to her esophagus that prevented her from eating—but she was still able to drink water. No pain with it, but after dropping half her weight and without hope of successful treatment, it was her time to leave us behind. It is especially hard for us because she came to us in an unusual way—we found the litter of less than a month old kittens in our basement window well in southwest NE that had been abandoned by their mother during a hail storm. We took them all inside, got them warm and dry and put them out for the mother to come back for, but she never returned. We kept the calico and orange tabby and named them Clarice and Claudia. (Another family took in the two gray kittens.) We bottle fed them and they eventually integrated into the rest of the cats and grew to be true characters. Clarice at almost 20 pounds and Claudia about 12. Very different personalities, you would never know they were litter mates! Claudia also is ailing—with diabetes. I give her twice a day insulin shots, but she’s doing well. And this is our second loss to our ‘Clowder of 8’ this year. (Penelope crossed the bridge in April) All we can say is love your pets ALL you can as long as you can…because they leave you all to soon…J.R.
