Hanging on is very important with backwards or sideways. If you feel unsafe, then don’t do it.

I’ve had both knees replaced. If you have problems with stairs, hang onto the rail and try walking down backwards. PT guy says it is mechanically different than facing forward, so it can be painfree, if somewhat disorienting.

Puppyface, maybe your sources at the hospital haven’t turned over every stone. When a dear friend went blind, she thought she could find resources for her at her doctor’s office, but every helpful organization she has came from friends searching for her. I don’t know Denver at all, as I am from Chicago, but I would check with Catholic Charities, Lutheran Family services, and the Salvation Army (you do not need to be from their religions to receive help), as well as the United Way for help seeking housing. I had some time this afternoon, and I found these links which I hope will prove to be helpful: http://www.seniorsresourceguide.com/directories/Denver/search.php?region=CO04&topic=110

Reading this strip and reading about your cat-centric lives makes my days better. If somebody with a squinty little heart can’t stand reading all about those dear cats and kittens(and doggies, skunks, owls, emus, pigeons, babies of all species, etc), he can simply stop reading.
