   This series of Sundays (first published in 2016 for the 95th anniversary) is paying homage to the original version of Ginger Meggs from Jimmy Bancks.

   I’d assume Jason Chatfield grew up with the James Kemsley version of Ginger Meggs during the 1980s/1990s, as JC was born in 1984 and the Kemsley era of GM began roughly around the same time.

   I’m pretty sure Ginger Meggs had Minnie Peters as a girlfriend as far back as the 1980s (she’s a character in the 1982 movie) and probably even earlier than that.

   Similar deal in the Ginger Meggs universe, I think. There’s been a number of strips where the joke has been that John isn’t a very good cook!

   Not sure what Jason and co think about this issue however I personally wouldn’t be surprised if Australian newspapers wanted to dump comic strips at least 2-3 years ago, only being generous enough to wait until a little after Ginger Meggs’ 100th birthday (which itself didn’t generate as much coverage in this country as it should’ve) so as to not trigger much wider outrage.

   I thought they were still doing reruns here on weekdays though.

   Mind you, the last “truly new” Sunday strip for Ginger Meggs seemed to be published on GoComics back in July.
