   At my previous job, we had a dot matrix printer that we used to print drafts without wasting the ink/toner in the “good” printer. Can’t tell you many “good” printers that dot matrix outlasted. Thing must have been close to 20 years old. We used to joke that we could throw it off the roof and it would still work

   Right before my senior year of high school, our district opened a new vocational-technical school. I was in the first class. You attended your “home” school for 1 or 2 weeks (I forget), then the tech school for 1 or 2 weeks. I took a business office course. They also offered cosmetology, auto repair, and yes, some sort of keypunch class where the students were pretty much told they’d have a job for life once they finished the class. Oh well, everything changes.

   I was always partial to the IBM Selectric typewriters. They really lasted too. I’ve been at my current job for almost 8 years. They bought me a brand new Brother printer, copier and scanner. It still works just fine. It did tell me for about 2 years that it needed a new drum, but a coworker said ignore that message until it won’t let you print anymore. We just finally got the new drum a couple of months ago. Since this one worked so well, I recently got a Brother for home. My Epson died.

   Mine sent me a new cable card in October. I still haven’t figured out where it goes. Fortunately, I can still use my streaming services, so I’m not too upset about not being able to watch regular TV. I don’t watch that much anyway. I just forgetting to call them to have someone come over and install it. Plus, of course, not wanting to pay somebody to come over and install it. My cable bill is high enough as it is.

   I’m surprised it even has instructions. Most of the new electronic equipment I get these days makes you look up the user manual online. Or worse, watch a video. I do best with words. Tell me in plain, simple words what I need to do. (Tab A into Slot B, that’s my kind of instruction.)

   My brother is hopeless when it comes to technology, especially every time he gets a new phone. I tell him to just go outside and grab the nearest 12 year old. He says he would, but the police tend to frown on that. He does have a point there.

    I pay all of my bills online. I used to go to the various creditors’ website and make a payment, but I found it’s faster to use my bank’s app. and pay directly from my bank account. I realize not everyone is comfortable with paying online, but so far I haven’t had any issues. Just an idea if you really get stuck in the house and something needs to be paid right away. Those late fees can be murder.
