Ah yes, the 2003 outage. It wasn’t the entire northern US. Somewhere around maybe Chicago (IIRC) & points west things were fine. Satellite photos were spectacular—city lights most places, but a large quadrant of the US (OK, and parts of Canada!) were totally black. Northeast and northern midwestern US.
Hmph. Here in town, we’ve had outages of a week or so, more than once. (Wind more than snow or ice is often the main culprit—a tree takes out nearby power lines, and even bringing in crews from other states DTE is slow.)
Me either. (Never watch TV (for over half a century). I’d add, “I’m too old for that one”, except it sounds like it may have been old enough—the Charmin guy was.)
I’m pretty sure you need electricity to run the pump that circulates the hot water, too.
