Google “Vancouver Bear door” for video of someone who put a “doggie door” in his fence to allow the local bear to pass through his yard on the way to the river (instead of knocking the fence down).
The post was focused on questioning why English was not treated “fairly” in a province in Canada that is predominantly French. Seems racist to me but, again, not surprising. You don’t recognize that in the post, which, again and sadly, is not unexpected.
“Ugly American” is a stereotype depicting American citizens as exhibiting loud, arrogant, self-absorbed, demeaning, thoughtless, ignorant, and ethnocentric behavior mainly abroad, but also at home. Seems to me to apply to the original poster. This is, unfortunately, a widely observed phenomenon. If that doesn’t apply to you personally, great.
The solution for you is to not come here at all. That would be our preference, frankly. You can leave your American jingoistic racist attitudes at home where it seems to be popular.
The amount of ignorance from what I must assume is predominantly Americans about the country next to them is not surprising in the least. Your comment, in particular, illustrates why people consider Americans to be ugly tourists who demand that they experience only their own culture when in another country.
Love the title of the book. “The Flight Before Christmas”.
