Anyone remember the ancient TV episode of “Amos ‘n’ Andy” where Kingfish buys a diner along a busy federal highway, only to find that a new freeway bypasses it?
Nice ideas, but I’m having trouble facing up to the possible end of this strip. I’m about to turn 70, and Gasoline Alley has been part of my life for all of that time. So much of the America I grew up with has faded away.
I’ve been fearing that would happen. So many of my cozy and familiar American icons have fallen by the wayside, that I really would hate to let go of this one. Can anyone suggest how G.A. might be saved?
