Having to “clean your plate” as a child (even when no longer hungry) I’m sure has contributed to the obesity epidemic in the U.S. It took me half a lifetime to unlearn that childhood lesson! Better to start with smaller portions, and quit eating when you’re full. And learn that leftovers can be taken home from that favorite restaurant and enjoyed the next day.
Actually, we know Calvin had time to put his things back on before addressing Hobbes – considering that Hobbes is already deep into the comic by the time we reach the 4th panel. That is, if you want to get picky about it. :-)
Elizabeth would have seen pictures of her mom from before she was born. I knew my mom looked just like she did in the ’50s, long before my dad told her so in the ’70s (and suggested a more modern haircut!).
If the patient is “put to sleep” first (i.e., with the same drugs used every day for major surgery") and then the drug is administered that stops the heart, I believe it would be painless. Some “pet parents” choose to save money by NOT administering the first drug, so the pet ends up being awake and fully aware for the second. A heart attack is NOT painless (not to mention, it’s frightening as hell) and this is NOT a humane death. I know the discussion started with humans, but our pets are considered by most to be family members and deserve the same consideration at the end of life. (NOT going into the ethics of the human issue – mainly because I don’t know the answer to that one!)
My grandmother was named Mildred, and she did indeed go by Millie as a young woman. (“Thoroughly Modern Millie”!) And, she had red hair. Hard to believe that was 100+ years ago.
I came here to say Lark!
