I think the (alleged) joke is that Mopey had no food whatsoever in his fridge, so they were forced to order instead. (Presumably from a pizza place that actually employs people who know how to make pizza, as opposed to, y’know, these two.)
I mean… did you see the looks Rachel was giving Pizza Monster in the 2021 story? (That would be the same Rachel that Mopey Pete once had a crush on. Pretty sure PM would have scored before MP could…)
Technically, Mopey should be in his fifties (!!!). He’s more or less the same age as Boy Lisa, who was born when Dead Saint Lisa was in high school. And since the 50th anniversary of her graduating class was shown in 2022… both Boy Lisa and Mopey (and anyone else from their class, like Jessica Darling Whose Father John Darling Was Murdered) all have to be over 50 at this point.
Assuming, of course, that we actually can use things like “facts” to deduce things about the comic, but since that also leads us to deduce that Cindy is about 70 years old, it would seem that Batiuk doesn’t care about keeping his continuity consistent…
So… when was yesterday’s strip supposed to be taking place? This would appear to be at the same time as the rest of last week’s strips (save yesterday), given that Mason and Cindy Age 70 are wearing the same outfits and the Entertainment Tonight correspondent is still there. Did Mason take time out from this (supposedly major) event to change clothes and hang around the Komix Korner (which isn’t even in the same town as the Valentine)? And if so, WHY? Are we just supposed to assume it’s more time-warping shenanigans from TimeMop, the Elegant Solution™?
(Also, did they put up a cardboard cut-out of Generic Blonde Mindy in the last two panels? Is that why she looks exactly the same in both panels? Surely it’s not because Dan Davis is just recycling art assets, right?)
(Also also, I’m pretty sure in the last panel, the shrooms Mason took are kicking in. That’s what that facial expression conveys, right?)
