The English language, lacking a neutral gender, has long used the masculine gender to represent the neutral gender, with context dictating how the term is to be understood. Further, both Calvin and Hobbes are males, it would be natural to reference them, when referring to “creators”. The only reason to confuse the issue with plural pronouns/he or she, is to confuse the issue and seek conflict where there is no conflict.

I was going to suggest that, considering the likely candidates from the two major parties, both parties are trying to encourage their own voters to stay home, while encouraging the opposition voters to show up to vote against them. That doesn’t make any sense, though.
