The bursting into flames is caused when you are in the process of recharging. There was a problem with the shut off of the charge mechanism in the car. Last I looked, Jaguar is now owned by Ford. That may have changed. I am not sure.
Thanks, I do appreciate that. The Jaguars that may go on fire are the new ones! The Ford hybrid I had was just about at the end of its lease, so it was relatively new. I will never chance having a car going on fire and possibly taking the house with it. I certainly know that the outside temp and the use of heaters or the AC affects the mileage. Odd that we pay all that money but can’t use the features! One of the first EVs I had only had a 60 mile range. So, in effect you could had to be scrupulous about only going 30 miles from home. Remember, once you reach your destination you have to get home! Unless you are visiting someone who has a charger you are stuck. Even then, you have to wait even with the rapid charger. Also, the tow truck man can’t bring you a can of electric! You have to be towed That’s why I always insisted on hybrids. But, honestly, I am sick of the whole thing. And,yes, disposal of the batteries is becoming a problem. They won’t tell you that in the ads—but when my daughter was t-boned while driving one it was a major problem
Having owned at least 10 EVs and hybrids I don’t think I am uninformed. Don’t cast aspersions as a way of making a point. By the way, I don’t care what they are doing in Europe or Asia.
I have had EVs and hybrids for many years (over 6 now). They are a gigantic fraud being pushed on the public. Ask yourself where the electric to power the car comes from. Ask yourself about disposal of the electric batteries when the car is in an accident or is junked. It is a pain to get a plug station at work since people who have no business being in our lot come in, park, and leave the car all day. I just bought an all gas Ford and love it. By the way, the final straw came when Ford sent me a letter saying that I should not use plug in my hybrid because the battery might burst into flames. I understand some pricy Jaguar is having similar issues now.
We always called it “ribbon candy”. If you google that, you will definitely find it.
