That’s a clever comment. It goes without saying that criticizing two of the most successful men in the world is wrong headed and simply wrong, of course, but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the comment.

True, that. But I always balance the cost against the Husband Points. And in my experience, Husband Points are cancelled if you eat any. You can even get previous points subtracted.

My wife is a fan of Cella’s, and like Janis, bringing them sets off a flowchart of ambivalence.

There ought to be a good word for actors who exploit their celebrity to influence elections. I would call them hypokarchs, from ‘hypokrites’, which means “an actor.” and ‘arkein’, which means to rule. Doesn’t sound very catchy, though.

I was talking about the truly self made men. Coming from a rich background won’t make you the richest, most accomplished in the world. And being in the right place is important, but as they say, luck favors the well prepared. My experience is that, other than the super generational rich, if you can’t earn it, you won’t be able to hold on to it for long.

First of all, whether you call it oligarch or plutocrat, it involves being a ruler. Just being super rich just makes you super rich, not an arch or crat. Second, self-made wealth is usually evidence of skill and wisdom and the ability to manage complex organizations. Not always, I get it. But look at Bezos and Musk. They didn’t shoot a gun into the ground and up came a-bubblin’ crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea. It was discipline and drive and creativity to made them what they are. Better they run things than people who just float along on the current. Sure, there’s a danger they will do things for their own benefit and the detriment of the powerless. But that happens no matter who’s in power, as happened during the French Revolution.
