Well, WartHog, I think you’re making a splendid ingenue appearance today and you should be proud of all those pesky remarks, meant in jest of course, that have come your way (South America – no me gusta el pescado para comir pero las frutas de malanga como son cocinado en mi pais de Cuba – muchos anos despues de Castro por supuesto, desde 1961 quando nos entraron a Miami con la familia), Singapore, Canada, non-Canada, and even here in sunny Sarasota, FL. I will look for you in cyberspace, dear WH (there, I’ve just given you a more corporate nickname). Feel better now? I kiss you on your furry forehead, ‘cause I think you could use some luv… Don’t need my net today.

on Dark Side of the Horse
Horace is artfully savvy and knows how to place… the artwork, that is, not in the racing form. I’m really gratified to study Horace: He’s a thinking person’s sip of a good bourbon; he’s the magnificence of silence (we don’t hear him neighing all the time); he’s pleasant to look at and EZ on the eyes; he looks good in black – very chichi (sort of like Gloria Vanderbilt used to look like in the late 60s when she was the IT girl of that time on Park Avenue); terrific sense of balance… on two legs, especially when he really has four (and no fair with the tripod jokes, guys!). What more can I say? Uhm – go get the net.

Be nice to Mother Nature – my Mom used to say. She gets a kick out of this comic strip, at 92 1/2 she can prosthelytize as much as she likes, we still love her.

So many choices – she can keep on trekking, and he can keep on truckin’. And don’t forget, for better or worse, it can get sort of funny if you remember he’s wearing a red jacket – bears are not color blind…

Earl and Opal are animated versions of my parents – with Dad (RIP 1920-2012) acknowledging he even looked like Earl, and Mom (a usually quiet woman anyway) getting the last line and epitomizing Opal’s character. And folks, I used to love watching Art Linkletter and his “Kids Will Be Kids” show. His voice was melodious and his charm spot on. Met him years later when he was our guest speaker in Boston at a statewide annual Dental Convention. He was still a charming guy. Someone bring back the repeats of the Arthur Godfrey radio show, too. He used to be our apartment neighbor when we lived in Manhattan, could hear his laughter thru the walls. Funny guy. We need a happier time now.
Happy Thanksgiving all, wherever you may be – serving (in the military) away from your homes, or being served by some pretty terrific waitstaff and cooks who put in a pretty long day to those dining out, or your family and friends joining in to a traditional meal at home. If, like me and my husband during our single years before we met, then enjoy your day with some great movies, cartoons, catching up on a good book, and a TV-made meal. Been there, and more. Life is what you make of the crumbles. Just add sugar on top to sweeten up the deal. To-da-loo and a merry song in your head.

And so, the moral of the story is: Don’t leave modern man alone in the kitchen; he’ll whip something up to replace the “missing turkey” and you’re still gonna get potatoes & tomatoes. A lot of them. But, on the other hand, I do love stuffing – with cooked and crumbled sage sausage, chopped pecans, dried cranberries, golden raisins, along with the usual suspects of chicken broth, packaged herb-crusted stuffing bread, diced celery, onions, apple, poultry seasoning, some itsy-bitsy pieces of chile (need to spice up this thingy) and drizzled with clarified butter touched by a jigger, or two, of sherry (some for me, some for the stuffing). Serve when cooked and topped by my fav. gravy out of the can. Dash of white pepper to taste, and bless us all. We make do with what we have – leftovers. BTW – I don’t need the net today.
I guess Garfield could use a can opener in his Christmas stocking – he’ll just give it to the mice and John to open his food for him while he sleeps the rest of his 23 1/2 hours. Gotta be prepared for emergencies. Happy Thanksgiving, sweet thing.
