A couple of days ago, I wondered whether it was worth my while to keep reading any more Pearls Before Swine. Now I have my answer. I’m tired of the strip becoming more overtly political, and I’ve had enough. I’m done. Up yours, Cartoon Boy.
No, the key to being famous is having an interesting social media platform, and Jon has no idea what it means to be interesting. But then again, Jon is famous enough for sharing a comic strip with his cat for forty-six years and counting, so maybe he doesn’t need a social media platform.
Technically, Jon may be Garfield’s owner, but the reality is that Garfield owns Jon. This has been true for decades, and today’s strip only proves that point even more.
Threatening to leave the country if Trump wins is the equivalent of the spoiled brat who threatens to run away from home. Everyone knows you’re just doing it for attention, and everyone knows you’re not really going to go through with it.
Now this is what I love about Pearls Before Swine – when Stephan Pastis plays with the medium of the comic strip itself. This is so much better than when he uses his characters to gripe about smartphones, social media, and the virtue of supporting “journalism”.
It’s rare that a weekday Garfield strip is actually funny enough for me to LOL at. This one had me laughing till my sides hurt! I don’t know if it’s the rat’s feet sticking out, or Garfield’s remark about needing a tetanus shot, or both, but this one is darn good. Well-played, Jim Davis, I applaud you, sir!
Wow, I have never seen Garfield that angry. His angry face is nightmare fuel! Thanks a lot, Jim Davis…
