    That was a thing along the Gulf Coast before the mid-70s. Wood down there grew fast and the plants to make paper were in every town of about any size. Because of the by products (waste/ecological damage) of manufacturing paper and paper bags a man came up with a great idea of manufacturing very thin plastic bags, to improve the earth. Makes you wonder what will happen next with the current bags or other systems where people don’t look at the by products of manufacturing them and scaling them for mass consumption.

    Long term deployments by troops leads to various items coming with them. US bases usually have American fast food joints, Canadian forces had a Tim Horton’s.

    @dianadoc I suggest you reread my initial comment. “City” doesn’t mean a major city, it means what small down people mean by city. For those who don’t make that jump, “city” means a place with a regional airport and medical services you expect to need as you age. The reason 1 hour is that as you age you can expect to complete your medical needs within 1 day and you can easily travel anywhere and your kids or friends can easily get to you. Friends who lived 2 or more hours away had to stay at hotels when they came to town and became something of a pain the older they got. Besides, have lived where the big grocery store is over an hour away and it’s a minor pain you might not want to live with. As for social aspects, smaller communities are as supportive in general, at least the ones I’ve lived in.

    @flagmichael I agree there’s the potential for more support but that doesn’t mean there is. Smaller communities can have good support, also, cities can have bad doctors.
