True, but the ones pretending to be female are on the ground, not in the air. Male fireflies fly around looking for a mate, females have their pick of the crop, so to speak; they just hang about and wait for patiently for an attractive fellow to ‘flash’ them…
Went on a firefly hike this year with a friend from China. She’d never seen a firefly and was totally in love with them and amazed by them at first sight. So we got a crash course in fireflies. :D
Depends on the hotel, really. I’ve stayed at a couple of ‘em near the Empire State Building (Morgan’s, for example) that had rooms of a similar size (for $500 a night. Plus taxes. LOTS of taxes).
What you need to do is find the 3+ star hotels in your area, like the Avalon. Huge rooms. Coffee makers. Central location. But a little off the main drag (5th Avenue) so the price goes to about $250-$300.
