When we traveled to Ireland in the early 80’s we were puzzled by the electirc meter that you had to feed coins to in order to heat water, etc. No one told us about that. We had to scurry to get coins. What an interesting experience.
And an old coal furnace that you banked before you went to sleep and that someone had to get going again in the morning. We used to write our names in the frost on the windows and draw pictures with our finger nails. Natures etch a sketch.
I saw an article about the disruptor impact of the printing press. It wasn’t printing the Bible (which was important) but that one of the most popular books was about how to find witches. (“300-year terror: How the printing press fueled witch hunts, misinformation in Europe.”) So…here we are 300 years later.
