So sorry for poor Smudge. Gah, I hate fireworks (especially random ones). I mean, they’re very pretty to look at but why must we have the booming kind when quiet(er) ones exist? What I really don’t get are the ones that ONLY make loud noise…I don’t get the appeal of those at all. But if you try to ask people to think of the people with PTSD, the pets, babies, and wildlife that are petrified of the loud bangs (sometimes literally scared to death), you get called a snowflake or buzzkill. It’s so discouraging.

Congrats to everyone who got one of Georgia’s beautiful paintings and prints! It’s like trying to get hot concert tickets, isn’t it?? :) We have a couple and they are among our very most treasured possessions and every single day no matter what is going on in the world they make me smile. Her work is just so full of heart and joy.

Thanks! My comment was from a few years back—they must not have had one then. :)

Professional writer and erstwhile copy editor here, chiming in to agree with those who’ve pointed out that “proper grammar” does not apply to dialog (unless speaking “correctly” is a quirk of the character)! Part of what makes these characters so believable is the natural way they speak. :)

As a gardener, I should probably mention that while concern about poinsettias is overblown (they likely aren’t toxic after all), NEVER EVER EVER bring a lily, especially an Easter lily, into your home. A cat might be very “good” around plants—never nibbling a leaf—but still be killed by the grains of pollen that drop off the anthers if they happen to lick it off their fur. A tiny amount can cause organ failure. Just don’t risk it.

I was just thinking that might be what I do. I’ll leave the 2019 BCN calendar on the wall (my kitchen would just not be the same without the joy and color it brings) and stick 2020 blank calendar pages over the months.
