I never liked the ‘guilt trip’ method of parenting…my husband has a saying for our kids (used mostly when they try to get their way) “you don’t live in a democracy, you live in a benevolent dictatorship.” Lol. All family members in the household should try to pitch in to the best of their abilities. It’s not a matter of one party ‘owing’ another, but coming together to make the house run smoothly.

" On November 13, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence; that request came from his wife. Deep down, he knew she was right, but he also knew that some day he would return to her. With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of his friend, Oscar Madison. Several years earlier, Madison’s wife had thrown HIM out, requesting that HE never return. Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy?"cue Odd Couple theme song…(yeah, I know they aren’t divorced, but it occurs to me Mr. Evans isn’t passing up an opportunity to pair ‘Felix’ & ‘Oscar’ together lol)

Are you kidding? I find this hysterical. I, too, have that one neightbor who I swear is out there with a ruler and pair of scissors because his lawn looks so perfect. (I’m lucky that I can get to mowing the lawn before I lose my dog itn it lol.)There is a compost pile behind some trees (town owned property) between ours where he throws his clippings…. Since he also throws pretty much everything that has finished blooming the minute the blooms are gone, I have gotten lots of free plants from it that he has discarded.

I kind of got the impression that his is less of a good clothes/bad clothes situation and more the Uncle razzing him for his teenager’s sense of needing to look perfect all the time (remember a few days ago when he was like “don’t touch the hair!”) When my son was about the same age he was into designer type clothes like Polo shirts which he would wear everywhere. He was in Boy Scouts at the time, I have a few pictures of him dressed to the nines going on a ten mile hike and one another one where he showed up to do a latrine painting service project with a polo shirt and fancy jeans (he did remember to bring coveralls, lol).

The way I learned cleaning cast iron is that you can rinse it out (use water in it) but not use soap on one, then dry it out well so as not to rust, and rub a little vegetable oil on it after the cleaning to protect it between uses. My son was a boy scout, I’ve been on lots of camping trips with his troop and watched/helped cleaning them. At home I personally use a copper bottomed stainless steel skillet (frying pan!) Using the same one for 20 years now…

I sometimes tease my son (older teen who is into vintage/classic rock music) that one day his kids are going to be asking him what his favorite Justin Beiber song was or how he felt when One Direction split up, lol….
You know what’s also funny – Ia lot of the modern video games have taken to using old songs as in-game music…. now I catch my son singing with lyrics to Marty Robbins “Big Iron” lol.
